Tanar Bookathon is Creating Literacy Aid for Public Schools

Tanar Kaduna Bookathon is an event which plans to gather creative volunteers to create Nigerian storybooks and literacy aids that can be  printed, translated & distributed to underserved pupils in public primary schools in Kaduna. It is part of a comprehensive program to boost literacy development in Kaduna state.

The intervention is modelled after both local and international bookathon projects (Flipleaves, Bookdash) but with some modifications by Tanar Educational Consultancy. Traditionally, Bookathons are events where books are collected to support a literacy cause. The Kaduna Bookathon would involve creative writers, teachers, artists, graphic designers coming together to produce books and other literacy building materials for pupils in public schools.

Tanar intends to produce books and learning materials with rich local content that would help improve literacy development in Kaduna state.

Though there is a public library and some private libraries like Ilmi House, there’s still a lot of work to be done to boost the literacy development of children in the state.
